Extemporaneous Speaking

This event qualifies for both the OHSSL and the NFL.

This event is the speech event closest to debate.  In it, speakers research current events, compiling files of news articles on a variety of topics.  At the tournament, speakers draw prompts in the form of questions about current events.  For instance, a speaker may draw a prompt like "Will the health care issue break the Democratic Party's hold on Congress?"  Then, the speaker has thirty minutes to deliver a speech which answers this question.  The speech must include cited research.
